On Tuesday, June 12th the University of South Florida and the Sun Dome reached an agreement with D.G. Yuengling and Son, Inc. for the naming rights of the Sun Dome. Effective July 1, 2018 the USF Sun Dome will officially become Yuengling Center.
Part of the 10-year contract agreement includes the name the “Yuengling Center” replacing all “Sun Dome” references in and on the facility, on campus and on all local signage. The deal will also include branding throughout USF Athletics including Raymond James Stadium for USF home football games, extensive assets for all basketball games played in the arena along with signage at all baseball and softball games.
Yuengling Center (formerly USF Sun Dome) opened on campus of the University of South Florida in November of 1980. The 55,000 square foot multipurpose facility includes a 10,500 seat arena which hosts many athletic events and concerts annually.
“Yuengling has been brewing beer in Tampa for nearly 20 years. We are very excited to extend our presence in the Tampa community to include the partnership with USF and the Yuengling Center,” said Jen Yuengling, 6th generation owner & vice president of operations, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. “Beyond naming rights, we’ll continue to support the greater Tampa community and on the campus of USF with the popular Handshake Internship Program, a scholarship for a veteran to attend USF’s Brewery Arts Program, and upcoming social responsibility initiatives. Yuengling Brewery is a family company, first and foremost, and we think this partnership is a great way to help further enhance the local community. As part of this partnership, we pledge to educate the students of USF, local residents, visitors and Tampa at large about ways to drink responsibly.”
The Yuengling Brewery is located only a mile away from the USF campus and J.J. Taylor Distributing Florida, Inc. will assume a leadership role in assuring all elements of the partnership agreement are executed, including social responsibility and community programming. As part of the announcement, Yuengling and USF announced a series of social-responsibility initiatives to be implemented prior to the start of the 2018-19 school year. Among them are a new designated-driver program at athletic events and concerts, and a USF Student Government Association partnership with Lyft that offers student discounts for the ride-sharing service on weekends.
“We are so excited to welcome the Yuengling family to the USF family,” USF interim athletic director Scott Kull told an audience of boosters, administrators and athletic department staffers Tuesday inside a Sun Dome club area. “This is a momentous and transformative day for USF as we formally announce our partnership with one of America’s most admired family-owned companies.”
