Summit Brewing Company is raising a glass to its 30th anniversary with several limited-release beers, concerts, events and plenty of toasts throughout 2016. Summit will celebrate the year with a record number of small-batch brews, including four 30th Anniversary Series beers and three Unchained Series releases.
Mark Stutrud founded Summit in 1986 and pioneered the Midwest’s current craft brewing industry – despite receiving a letter from the Brewers’ Association of America trying to dissuade him from establishing a microbrewery. Since then, Summit has produced 46 different beers and is now available in 14 states.
“During 30 years of Summit, we’ve maintained a passion for creativity, consistency and community,” Stutrud said. “Along the way, great partnerships have become great friendships with suppliers, distributors, retailers and, most importantly, our fellow beer drinkers.”
Summit hasn’t strayed from its foundation of quality and consistency. Its brewers’ innovative techniques and concepts remain rooted in traditional European brewing methods. Summit Brewing Company announces the release of 30th Anniversary West London-Style Ale, the third of four celebratory beers in the brewery’s 30th Anniversary Series. West London-Style Ale is available on draught and in six- and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans the second week of August.
Combining the classic Maris Otter ale malt with traditional and modern hop varieties, head brewer Damian McConn produced a sophisticated yet highly-drinkable British-Style Best Bitter. It is medium-bodied with toasty, graham cracker malt flavors, complemented with hop flavors and aromas of loganberry, redcurrant, grapefruit and lime.
Unchained and Team Brew Series
Summit Brewing Company announces the release of the brewery’s first-ever coffee beer, Dark Infusión: A Coffee Milk Stout, the twenty-third beer released in the limited edition Unchained Series. Dark Infusión is available on draught and in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans for a limited time.
For his first Unchained Series beer, brewer Pete Stacy crafted a sweet stout made even more complex and bold with the infusion of cold brewed coffee. For the coffee, Pete worked with Saint Paul’s Blackeye Roasting Co to create a custom blend of Brazilian and Colombian varieties.
“The best part of brewing this beer was learning about the coffee industry first-hand: sourcing and importing beans from all over the world, analyzing for quality, and then blending coffee varieties to perfectly fit the profile of my sweet milk stout,” said brewer Pete Stacy.
